It was December 25, 1914, only 5 months into World War I. German, British, and French soldiers, already sick and tired of the senseless killing, disobeyed their superiors and fraternized with "the enemy" along two-thirds of the Western Front (a crime punishable by death in times of war). German troops held Christmas trees up out of the trenches with signs, "Merry Christmas."
"You no shoot, we no shoot." Thousands of troops streamed across a no-man's land strewn with rotting corpses. They sang Christmas carols, exchanged photographs of loved ones back home, shared rations, played football, even roasted some pigs. Soldiers embraced men they had been trying to kill a few short hours before. They agreed to warn each other if the top brass forced them to fire their weapons, and to aim high...

Prayer request
From Alyssa's Dad:
Long story short its swelling and not draining properly into her bladder. Although its not a big surgery any surgery for a toddler is big and scary as hell for her mom and myself.
So prayers for Alyssa and her family would be appreciated.

Is History Repeating Itself?
This has been in the back of my mind since then so I decided to do some research on the Roman Empire. I came across the following article about the fall of the Roman Empire and was shocked to see the parallels between ancient Roman and modern America.
How Excessive Government Killed Ancient Rome.
It is rather long but is worth the read.
Here's the last paragraph of it to give you an idea what we're in for.
In conclusion, the fall of Rome was fundamentally due to economic deterioration resulting from excessive taxation, inflation, and over-regulation. Higher and higher taxes failed to raise additional revenues because wealthier taxpayers could evade such taxes while the middle class--and its taxpaying capacity--were exterminated. Although the final demise of the Roman Empire in the West (its Eastern half continued on as the Byzantine Empire) was an event of great historical importance, for most Romans it was a relief.

The "Bush" Recession
Presidents get blame and credit for the ups and downs in the economy and frankly its not Presidents that drive the governmental impact on the economy its The Congress.
Congress holds the purse strings. Laws and regulations originate in the Congress. If government is going to help or harm the economy, this help or harm will most often start out in the form of a bill drafted in some subcommittee in Congress.
With that in mind I present the following chart.

Another "Big Lie"; Timothy McVeigh = CHRISTIAN Terrorist
The left engages in lots of "Big Lies" and a lot of smaller "Big Lies".
One such lie is brought up when leftists and progressives go way out of their way to defend Islam by pointing out Timothy McVeigh as a "Christian Terrorist" (the thinking being that if Christians are also terrorists than Islamic terrorism doesn't count ... or something like that ... left-think is difficult to understand sometimes as its usually not actually thought).
McVeigh was NOT a "Christian Terrorist" because he was by his own words NOT A CHRISTIAN.
From Wikipedia
McVeigh wrote a letter to the Buffalo News claiming to be an agnostic and told the authors of American Terrorist that he did not believe in Hell.
McVeigh once said that he believed the universe was guided by natural law, energized by some universal higher power that showed each person right from wrong if they paid attention to what was going on inside them. He had also said, "Science is my religion."
McVeigh was a misguided fool who's motivation for his attack on the Murrah Federal Building in OKC was 100% purely political (a response to the deaths of the Branch Davidians in Waco TX and Randy Wiever's wife and son in Idaho at the hands of Federal Agents).

Environmentalists REALLY DO want to kill you.
Their goal is to get everyone in the world to reduce their carbon emissions by 10%, starting in 2010. Sounds harmless enough (even though Carbon Dioxide isn't a pollutant ... but that's an argument for another post).
What the PSAs demonstrate is the absolute hate for anyone that disagrees with them. When I or another conservative refers to these people as "environazis" or "envirofascists" you can see that we're not engaging in hyperbole. No these people really and truly want to be able to kill people that merely disagree with them.
WARNING: Video not for the squeamish (lotsa blood).
It is my understanding that one or more of these PSAs actually ran on British television and were removed after public outcry (but I have not confirmed this).
EDIT: Apparently the videos were run on their web site, not TV (thank God). They have taken them down with this lame "We're sorry" post (as in we're sorry we showed you our hearts).

The pernicious nature of those that love nature (and think man doesn't belong)
Its an interesting albeit disturbing read but one must understand that while he phrases his position rather harshly and in somewhat kooky language, his beliefs are the same as much of the mainstream environmentalist movement.
Humanity is a cancer on the earth and its the place of government to force us to stop breeding (to start with) and eventually start eliminating "undesirable" humans (which unless you're a part of the environmentalist power structure like Al Gore, that means YOU).

Calvin Coolidge
On Friday he did a great show on Calvin Coolidge, a president I knew very little about (which is sad since I lived a large chunk of my life in a house on Coolidge Street in Wichita Kansas).
You can watch the show here:
Restoring History: Calvin Coolidge Still Matters
Glenn Beck Show- August 13, 2010
Tonight, we continue the Restoring History series with the President that progressives NEED you to forget about-Calvin Coolidge. Ronald Reagan's favorite President, Coolidge drastically reduced the size of government and thwarted a depression in the early 20's that was bigger and deeper than the Great Depression that began in 1929. The country was in bad shape when he took office..but when he left, we were in the Roaring Twenties. Coolidge was probably one of the best Presidents we've ever had. So, just what was his secret? Find out tonight.
On a side note, I'm glad I stumbled across this web site as Glenn's show comes on either while I'm at work or late at night and I don't have a DVR.

Don't cry over spilt ...er...BEER.
In this example, the amount of oil spilled - if the Gulf of Mexico was the size of Cowboys Stadium - would be about the size of a 24 ounce can of beer.
Cowboys stadium has an internal volume of approximately 104 million cubic feet, compared to the just over 50 cubic inches of volume in a 24-ounce can.
Just like the can, the spilled oil represents only .00000002788% of the liquid volume present in the Gulf of Mexico, although as the oil is dispersed, the amount of water affected becomes substantially greater.

Obamacare Covers Abortion in Pennsylvania — and in New Mexico, Too

Obamacare Covers Abortion in Pennsylvania — and in New Mexico, Too [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
Yesterday, we visited the Pennsylvania high-risk health-care insurance program and its abortion funding.
In New Mexico, the new $37 million high-risk pool began enrolling individuals on July 1. They will start receiving benefits in August, including elective-abortion services, according to the state insurance department's website. Once a deductible is paid, 80 percent of the elective abortion is covered.
Douglas Johnson of the National Right to Life Committee tells me: "HHS has been hiding most of these high-risk plans, including the plan that HHS will administer directly in 21 states. Of the four state plans we've managed to ferret out, two provided coverage of all essentially all abortions — Pennsylvania and New Mexico. This is part of a pattern, under this administration, of making 'soft' rhetorical statements on abortion policy, but consistently promoting and expanding abortion through low-visibility administrative decisions. The administration's heavy funding of groups pushing a proposed new pro-abortion constitution in Kenya is another example."
(The Kenya campaign can be read about here and here.)
In a statement to The Corner, House minority leader John Boehner, who has continued to press the administration on the continuing story of Obamacare's abortion lies, says: "In just the past 24 hours, we've learned of two states in which the new federal high-riskinsurance programs created under Obamacare and approved by the Obama administration will use federal funds to pay for abortion, despite promises by the White House and Democratic leaders that no such funding would occur under Obamacare. These developments provide stark confirmation that President Obama's executive order last spring was little more than a political ploy to ensure passage of Obamacare by circumventing the will of the American people, who are clearly opposed to taxpayer-funded abortion."
Boehner adds: "President Obama and Secretary Sebelius owe the American people an immediate explanation, as do Speaker Pelosi and the leaders of organizations such as the Catholic Health Association and NETWORK, who claimed the law and executive order would not allow federal funding of abortion, despite warnings by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and others to the contrary."
The Obama administration lied, and members of Congress who claim to be pro-life went along with the sham. There should, indeed, be electoral consequences.
Tea Party Racism is TOTAL LIE.

Debating Liberals
Logical Fallacies
by acmaurerco
I’ve been wanting to write about how the left’s arguments are full of logical fallacies for some time. I remember learning debate in speech class and there was a list of some half-dozen or so common logic fallacies commonly used in debate. I couldn’t quite remember what they all were, so I looked up the term “logical fallacies” and I was quite surprised at just how many there are. A really good, concise site is Logical Fallacies and of course Wikipedia has a list of fallacies as well. I used these sites as reference for what follows.
Overwhelmed by the sheer number of fallacies, I thought I’d present just a few common ones. I recommend going to those sites for more types and examples. Remember, the majority of politicians these days are lawyers and lawyers are taught to debate. They may commit any number of logical fallacies and if the opponent in the debate does not point it out, it stands. As Logical Fallacies points out:
Fallacious reasoning keeps us from knowing the truth, and the inability to think critically makes us vulnerable to manipulation by those skilled in the art of rhetoric.
We can lay aside the more formal deductive reasoning errors for the more interesting informal fallacies because we hear a lot of that in political discourse. There are three general types: fallacies of relevance, ambiguity, and presumption. I’ll give some examples of relevance.
One common fallacy of relevance is the ad hominum attack: attacking the person instead of the argument. The perfect example of this is the left attacking Sarah Palin personally because rather than her beliefs. Alinsky takes this further in advocating making fun of someone so that nothing that person says will be believed. They also try this with Glenn Beck and with the Tea Party movement in general. Once you know the game, it’s over: the more they attack someone, the more right that person must be.
Another is the bandwagon fallacy. The mere fact that an idea (or person) suddenly attracts adherents is given as a reason for us to join in with the trend and become adherents of the idea ourselves. Barack Obama’s cult of personality worked in this way. Fueled by social networking tools such as Facebook, it became “cool” to support him. Why? Because your friends did. His real persona and past were–and are–carefully hidden. But as he began to have a track record in public office, his popularity dropped faster than any previous president.
There are many irrelevant appeals as well. An appeal to authority is an argument from the fact that a person judged to be an authority affirms a proposition to the claim that the proposition is true. Since we assume our presidents to be truthful, we expect that when Barack Obama says that the Statue of Liberty was purchased by Americans donating small amounts of money, we assume it to be true. We would be wrong.
An appeal to fear is a specific type of appeal to emotion–an irrelevant appeal sometimes classed as a red herring. This is as much a debating tactic to distract the opponent (or the listener) as it is a fallacy of logic. In the appeal to fear, an argument is made by increasing fear and prejudice towards the opposing side. Examples of this include the classic Democrat strategy of telling the elderly that if they vote for Republicans, they will lose their Social Security or telling legal immigrants that they will be deported if the Republicans win. The left is masterful at playing on emotions. Conservatives are not exempt from this tactic either.
How do you avoid falling into logical traps? It can be challenging. Read, study, listen carefully. Look for the traps and apply what you know to be true. With a good internal moral compass you cannot be led astray.

You Are Being Lied To-Know Your History
In 1854, the Democrats in control of the 33rd Congress were moving toward passage of their Kansas-Nebraska Act, allowing slavery to expand into the western territories. Championing the bill was Stephen Douglas, the senator who would be the Democratic Party’s 1860 presidential nominee. The Democrat President at the time, Franklin Pierce, said he would sign the bill into law. The Democratic Party had chosen to promote slavery.
Amid the intense reaction, a grassroots movement similar to today’s Tea Parties sprang up to oppose the extension of slavery. At town meetings and demonstrations, anti-slavery activists voiced their opposition to the “Slave-ocrats” and organized the Republican Party. A small gathering in Ripon, Wisconsin, on March 20, is credited with being the first to use the Republican label.
On July 6, 1854, the Republican Party held in Jackson, Michigan its first-ever state convention. So many people attended – over 10,000 – that the meeting was held outdoors, Under the Oaks.
Just four months later, one of the founders of the Michigan Republican Party, anti-slavery activist Kinsley Bingham, was elected our nation’s first Republican governor. And, another of the original Michigan Republicans, Zachariah Chandler, became one of the first Republicans in the U.S. Senate. Senator Chandler, a former mayor of Detroit and leader of the Underground Railroad, went on to serve as Chairman of the Republican National Committee.
“If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong.”
Abraham Lincoln (R-IL), 1864
As the GOP struggles defend the nation from Barack Obama and the Democrat onslaught, the party should draw inspiration from its heroes. To quote Back to Basics for the Republican Party , “The more we Republican know about the history of our party, the more the Democrats will worry about the future of theirs.” See www.grandoldpartisan.com for more information.

Wow, NASA's job isn't space exploration...

NASA Chief: Next Frontier Better Relations With Muslim World
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his "foremost" mission as the head of America's space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world.
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his "foremost" mission as the head of America's space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world.![]()
Though international diplomacy would seem well outside NASA's orbit, Bolden said in an interview with Al Jazeera that strengthening those ties was among the top tasks President Obama assigned him. He said better interaction with the Muslim world would ultimately advance space travel.
"When I became the NASA administrator -- or before I became the NASA administrator -- he charged me with three things. One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science ... and math and engineering," Bolden said in the interview.
The NASA administrator was in the Middle East last month marking the one-year anniversary since Obama delivered an address to Muslim nations in Cairo. Bolden spoke in June at the American University in Cairo -- in his interview with Al Jazeera, he described space travel as an international collaboration of which Muslim nations must be a part.
"It is a matter of trying to reach out and get the best of all worlds, if you will, and there is much to be gained by drawing in the contributions that are possible from the Muslim (nations)," he said. He held up the International Space Station as a model, praising the contributions there from the Russians and the Chinese.
However, Bolden denied the suggestion that he was on a diplomatic mission -- in a distinctly non-diplomatic role.
"Not at all. It's not a diplomatic anything," he said.
He said the United States is not going to travel beyond low-Earth orbit on its own and that no country is going to make it to Mars without international help.
Bolden has faced criticism this year for overseeing the cancellation of the agency's Constellation program, which was building new rockets and spaceships capable of returning astronauts to the moon. Stressing the importance of international cooperation in future missions, Bolden told Al Jazeera that the moon, Mars and asteroids are still planned destinations for NASA.

Keith Olbermann’s recent hour-long commentary was quite revealing. Like Michael Moore’s “capitalism hasn’t done anything for me” comment, the outpouring of support and sympathy for serial pedophile and admitted rapist Roman Polanski, and President Obama’s shenanigans at the U.N. and G-20, it drove home a simple, powerful point…
These people don’t know what they are talking about.

Once you come to this realization, as many of us have, you are forced to approach their ideas and spokespeople from a position of reality. Not from some sanctimonious position of civility and “debate.”
For an actual debate, two things are needed. One, there must be a logical and factual distinction between two separate positions. Two, there must be equally matched participants, each one prepared and versed enough to intelligently present their side of the issue.
We don’t have that. We have one group of people who live in a fantasy world, full of twisted facts, backwards logic and wishful thinking. You can’t debate that. There is no factual, honest, or logical way to support their positions. It’s like arguing the best way to take a cross-country trip with a delusional Dungeons and Dragons geek. You want to reroute to avoid traffic on the I-10. He wants to “avoid the realm of the Bugbears.”
The other side of the “debate” isn’t operating in the same reality. They do not operate in reality at all.
Michael Moore has no business lecturing anybody or making any film about “capitalism” because he can’t even define the word. He doesn’t understand what capitalism is!
Moore grew up middle class in Flint, Michigan. He wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Under a Socialist system, the young Moore would never have been able to grow (and I mean really grow) into the ultra-rich toast of Hollywood who has a net worth in excess of $50 million. The jarring juxtaposition of the bloated, classless Moore, with his mustard stained T-shirt, Midwestern droll, and soiled baseball cap, noshing in swanky Manhattan eateries is a snapshot of Capitalism in action.
There should be no irony in Michael Moore making a film called “Capitalism: A Love Story.” Michael Moore should love Capitalism as much as he loves White Castle slyders.
Similarly, Olbermann’s diatribe was a brave stand against…death? You know, that inevitable thing that happens to all of us. Somehow, he managed to make the leap in logic that government-run health care is some sort of magical insulator protecting us from the Grim Reaper. It doesn’t make sense.
They stopped making sense awhile ago.
Imagine, if you will, a group of people who state that clouds are made of cotton candy. Children love cotton candy. In the sky, there is an unending supply of the sticky treat. To harvest the cotton candy, we must spend billions of taxpayer dollars to create machines that pluck the confection from the heavens. We must do this for the children.
“Ludicrous” states half of the population. Clearly, clouds are not made of cotton candy. In fact, we know exactly what clouds are made of. We also know the exact ingredients in cotton candy. The two are completely unrelated. Recipes and scientific data are presented to prove the case. To build a machine to collect non-existent cotton candy is a waste of money and resources.
The cotton candy cloud advocates respond. Anybody who claims that clouds are made of water vapor must want to hoard the cotton candy. They must benefit from the sales of cotton candy. Having free cotton candy would destroy their merciless pursuit of profits.
Oh, and obviously, they hate children and are probably racist.
This is what we are dealing with.
By acknowledging and accepting these laughable, false and dangerous ideas as simply “the other side” of a logical debate we bestow a validity to them that is unwarranted and ultimately unfair. I scoff at people like David Frum who call for civility and intellectual debate.
Who do we debate? Where are the other intellectuals?
Debating leftists is like debating Charles Manson. It’s crazy talk. When you debate a leftist you never get to debate the policy. You debate their intended outcomes and their perception of who you are. That’s a serious lapse in logical and critical thought.
World peace? An end to poverty? Proper medical care for all? Equal opportunity for all men and women? I agree. Great. Fine. We all want that. Appeasement? Wealth redistribution? Government controlled economy? Pre-occupation with race and gender? Whoa. Wait a second, how does that work? How do those policies equal those results? When has that ever worked?
President Obama is fond of saying “the debate is over.” My question is, when did it really start?
Many on the right are concerned with the “fringe.” They worry that people like Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck turn the discourse into a circus. Have they not been paying attention? Was the decision to elect Obama based on his experience, policy ideas or general grasp of the issues? Or was it based on entertainment and feelings?.
Those who call for the reincarnation of William F. Buckley to do battle with intellectual lightweights like David Shuster and Paul Krugman do not understand the Twitterverse in which we live. They ignore decades of indoctrination through public schools, universities, and Hollywood. Presenting entertaining, emotional, and “relatable” personalities is the only way to convert a populace conditioned to think that conservatives are cold, greedy, and uncreative.
James O’Keefe dressed like Superfly and Hanna Giles in that skirt are more effective than hundreds of Heritage foundation studies.
So I say crank up the Rush Limbaugh, stick Glenn Beck in a cage with some lions and put Sarah Palin on the trapeze. Let the circus begin. I’ll be first in line to buy a ticket.
I know Joe Biden already owns clown shoes.

Not all the oil on the Gulf coast is from BP spill
It may be hard to fathom, but even with gallons of oil spewing every minute from BP's broken well head in the Gulf of Mexico, not all the oil pollution in the Gulf is BP's fault.
First, blame Mother Nature. And that's actually good news, but we'll get back to that.
Second blame many of the ships that criss-cross that area. . . .
But even though many millions of gallons of crude oil have leaked into the Gulf, much of what is washing up on beaches near in and around the Gulf is not from the Deepwater Horizon spill.
"We've done a number of tarballs from Florida, Key West, Miami and so forth, none of which so far have matched the Deepwater Horizon," Gronlund said. "The tarballs that have been found on the beach in Florida are fuel oil." . . .
Now back to Mother Nature.
Some of the oil in the Gulf is natural seepage from the sea floor. The Coast Guard's head of research and development, Capt. Matt Sisson, explained that in the Gulf and other oil-rich spots in the world, crude oil bubbles up through the sea floor and into the Gulf Waters. . . .

Red Tape Slowing Oil Spill Clean-up
Waivers to the Jones Act were granted by the administration of George W. Bush in the days following hurricane Katrina. And today, the Obama White House said waivers might again be considered.
“If there is the need for any type of waiver, that would obviously be granted,” said White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs. “But, we've not had that problem thus far.”
Of course the reason Obama won't waive this is because it would not be the "union" thing to do.
Here is the whole article for you to read.
U.S. Constitution - Ninth Installment
Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.
The Electors shall meet in their respective States, and vote by Ballot for two Persons, of whom one at least shall not be an Inhabitant of the same State with themselves. And they shall make a List of all the Persons voted for, and of the Number of Votes for each; which List they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the Seat of the Government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate. The President of the Senate shall, in the Presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the Certificates, and the Votes shall then be counted. The Person having the greatest Number of Votes shall be the President, if such Number be a Majority of the whole Number of Electors appointed; and if there be more than one who have such Majority, and have an equal Number of Votes, then the House of Representatives shall immediately chuse by Ballot one of them for President; and if no Person have a Majority, then from the five highest on the List the said House shall in like Manner chuse the President. But in chusing the President, the Votes shall be taken by States, the Representation from each State having one Vote; A quorum for this Purpose shall consist of a Member or Members from two thirds of the States, and a Majority of all the States shall be necessary to a Choice. In every Case, after the Choice of the President, the Person having the greatest Number of Votes of the Electors shall be the Vice President. But if there should remain two or more who have equal Votes, the Senate shall chuse from them by Ballot the Vice President.

Public Schools; a waste of money AND bad for kids
We're constantly told that the solution to [insert problem here] is for government to take more money from the productive by force and give to the unproductive (read: union members) and at the same time limit the liberty and choices of the people.
Perspective on the oil spill
Stumbled across this chart (put together by Climatologist and former NASA scientist Dr. Roy Spencer).
While this is still not good, even if its twice as bad as Dr Spencer assumes, its still no where near as bad as the IXTOC-1 oil spill in the Gulf in 1979, so its not even the worst in the Gulf (let alone EVER!).
